The North Houston District was honored with a Parks and Natural Areas Special Recognition Award for planning excellence from the Houston-Galveston Area Council on February 9, 2024, for its Parks Master Plan.
The H-GAC’s Parks and Natural Areas Awards program recognizes best practices and innovative park planning and implementation approaches. The program was established in 2006 and has given more than 275 awards since then. The projects are considered models for the rest of the region to consider. H-GAC honors projects in the categories of Projects Over $500,000, Projects Under $500,000, Planning Process and Policy Tools, and Programming. This program recognizes outstanding parks and natural areas around the region. The 2023 Parks and Natural Areas Winners were honored on Friday, February 9, 2024. The 2024 awards program applications will open in the Fall.
