Conference Center Coordinator at CityNorth
We recently talked with Sorita Alexander, the Conference Center Coordinator at CityNorth, about her passion for problem-solving, her growth as a leader, and how the conference center is an asset in tenants’ arsenals.
Sorita Alexander is the go-to woman for commercial tenants at CityNorth who are organizing meetings and events. She’s a shining CityNorth Leading Lady, and as the Conference Center Coordinator, she oversees booking, billing, and facilitating successful meetings and events for tenants.
In an effort to highlight the talented and forward-thinking women creating positive change in our area, we are proud to present a new series: North Houston Leading Ladies. In each feature, we will spotlight a woman leader of a business or organization located within or in active partnership with the District.
The CityNorth Conference Center is a premier amenity available to tenants Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The facility, which accommodates groups ranging from 2 to 200 people, is the largest conference center in Lincoln Property Company’s Houston portfolio and the only one with dedicated staff. It has become a sought-after venue for retail and commercial tenants in North Houston, offering modern amenities and unparalleled convenience.

"We are committed to providing tenants with a seamless and professional experience,” says Alexander. “From the moment you arrive, we oversee all the details, ensuring your needs are met efficiently and effectively. Our goal is to support your success by enhancing your image and reputation with clients and potential clients alike."
Alexander joined CityNorth in November 2017 and is inspired by Lincoln Management’s mission “to be a standout in the community.” She has been excited to hear from international corporate guests visiting the campus who are pleasantly surprised by the property and the surrounding area.
Passion for Customer Service
Launching her career at the Department of Health and Human Services, Alexander worked in social work case management, assisting with government aid programs, before transitioning to insurance housing. When the division dissolved, Alexander began working at Marriott Hotels, where she mastered the intricacies of hospitality management and high-quality customer service. Over the years, she also gained experience in accounting, finance, regional sales, and even the oil and gas industry.
After a layoff, Alexander received a call from her friend Noelle, who she jokingly refers to as her “personal headhunter,” about joining the LPC team at CityNorth as the Conference Center Coordinator. Noelle said, “it’s perfect for your skillset.” Having worked with Noelle at multiple organizations in the past, Alexander knew the position would be a good fit.
Growing as a Leader
During her time at Marriott, Alexander developed as both a professional and a leader, benefiting from comprehensive training and mentorship. Alexander’s leadership style is direct, collaborative, and results-driven, always focused on finding “creative ways to say yes” to get things done.
"I tend to be a black-and-white thinker, but I had a manager (Laurie) who encouraged me to expand my perspective and consider things from other people’s viewpoints," she explains. "Collaboration is key; you need to step back and see how we can work together to find solutions."
Alexander also offers advice to other professional women: “Don’t be discouraged by the naysayers. Even if no one recognizes your talent at first, keep pushing forward. Eventually, someone will see it, respect it, and give you the opportunity to shine.” She reminds others that it is okay not to be everyone’s cup of tea because, “you will find the people who truly value what you bring to the table.”

Organizing for a Good Cause
The part of Alexander’s job that she finds most rewarding is partnering with Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center to organize blood drives on CityNorth’s campus. Originally a small initiative with fifteen appointments, the drives have grown larger over time, with the most recent drive accommodating ninety appointments. For Alexander, this cause is personal—her late father required frequent blood transfusions due to a chronic illness.
Alexander’s goal is to make blood drives as easy and convenient as possible for employees on campus to give. “Every donation saves three lives,” she emphasizes. From the first drive in 2017 until now, 362 people have donated at CityNorth collecting 881 products resulting in 2,643 lives saved.
In her personal time, Alexander continues her volunteer work as a graduate member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated, Lambda Zeta Chapter. She has remained involved as an alumni member since graduating from the University of Houston. She continues to contribute to various charitable initiatives, including March of Dimes, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the American Cancer Society, and several scholarship programs.
