The North Houston District is taking action to improve safety along Kuykendahl Road, a prominent road that terminates at the I-45 feeder road near Rockstar Energy Bike Park. Known as the Kuykendahl Curve, this section of the roadway has been the site of numerous incidents where speeding vehicles lose control and leave the roadway. Despite previous safety enhancements, such as increased signage and additional speed limit signs, the problem has persisted, with several accidents causing repeated damage in 2022 and 2023.
To address these concerns, the North Houston District has initiated a safety improvement project to protect both park visitors and the substantial City of Houston infrastructure in the area, including an above-ground 6-inch backflow prevention system that serves bike park. Temporary barricades have been installed while the District works with the City of Houston on final permitting approvals for a permanent guardrail that will enhance the area’s safety and aesthetics.
Construction bids have been submitted, and the installation of the permanent guardrail is scheduled to begin on November 1, with an anticipated 21-day construction period, weather permitting.
