Meet Margaret

Margaret Eyster worked in the office supply industry and as a manager for McDonalds before transitioning to the printing industry in 1989. She is a U.S. Navy veteran who served as a reservist for ten years achieving a First Class ranking.

The native Houstonian became acquainted with the District when relocating to Greenspoint to work for a printing company. Once here, Eyster encountered an article about the management district and immediately contacted Jack Drake to get involved. She remembers fondly being coined the District’s “first volunteer” by Drake.

The Start of Magoo’s

After 12 years in the area selling printing, Eyster was laid off during the 2001 recession, however, it was an opportunity in disguise. Eyster soon started her own printing business from her home in 2002, opening a brick and mortar location soon after and choosing to coin it Magoo’s in honor of her childhood nickname. Ever since, Magoo’s PrintShop has been a “fun place for quality printing,” proudly serving all industries in the North Houston area.

In 20+ years in business, Eyster has worked hard to create and improve internal procedures. It was during her tenure at McDonalds where she learned a lot about scaled growth and efficiency. “It’s all about creating a system and teaching others to do it just like you, so that the entire process can be replicated,” she says.

Working in the District

Eyster gives generously of her time, participating on the North Houston District’s Marketing Committee for years along with serving as a longtime board member. Eyster also supports several nonprofit organizations, including Be An Angel and Wreaths Across America, through in-kind donations.

Margaret has become “very connected to the community” and says the initiatives she’s most excited about are the efforts spearheaded by VP of Public Safety, Tracy Harrison, to keep the community safe and secure.

She finds one of the best parts of being a business owner in the District is the prime location, saying, “In five minutes, I can be heading North, South, East, or West on a major freeway and get anywhere I need to go. We’ve also got more elbow room, more breathing space, and easy access for clients coming into IAH.”

Another bright spot for Eyster is the lack of traffic noise and congestion, as compared to elsewhere in Houston. She enjoys walking at Ida Gaye Gardens near her shop, one of the District’s many greenspaces which provides an escape to nature.

Shake It Off

When it comes to career advice for business owners, Eyster says “You have to be flexible or you’ll break. You can have a perfect plan, and then the power goes out or equipment malfunctions… you never know what’s going to happen. Fight the biggest fire and then go back to the plan. Be able to switch gears and wear different hats.”

Eyster’s leadership style centers on a straightforward approach, describing herself as pragmatic. “I like to do it right and get it done. No fluff,” she says. Her dependability and directness have made her a go-to for clients and a cornerstone of the North Houston business community.

“At Magoo’s, we’re partners in helping businesses grow. I’m proud of our Texas roots, our commitment to local sourcing, and the relationships we’ve built over the past two decades. Whether you’re a first-time customer or a longtime client, we’re here to support your success—with quality, care, and a personal touch.”
