Clean & Green
Our Field Services Department is dedicated to creating and maintaining a vibrant, attractive environment throughout the District.
By focusing on the maintenance and beautification of parks, trails, green spaces, and key corridors, we aim to evoke a sense of pride and place in our community. Whether you’re driving through our major thoroughfares or enjoying a stroll in our public spaces, you’ll experience the positive impact of our efforts to enhance the beauty and appeal of North Houston.
Landscaping & Mowing
From Interstate 45 and North Sam Houston Parkway to the District’s major corridors and Gateway entrances, landscaping plays an important role in creating a welcoming first impression. In Southeast Texas, where vegetation grows nearly year-round, routine mowing and landscape maintenance are essential to keeping these highly visible areas neat, attractive, and well cared for. Through consistent maintenance schedules and attention to detail, District Field Services crews help preserve the District’s appearance and reinforce a positive image for businesses, residents, and visitors.
Right of Way Maintenance
Maintaining the public right of way requires ongoing coordination and strong partnerships with local and state agencies. The North Houston District helps keep these highly traveled areas safe, clean, and accessible through routine litter pickup, vegetation management, and other maintenance activities. District Field Services crews provide weekly litter collection at 14 key intersections, helping ensure roadways and public spaces remain well maintained and welcoming for everyone who travels through the District.
Park Maintenance
The North Houston District maintains more than 68 acres of parkland and over 10 miles of trails, providing welcoming spaces for recreation, relaxation, and community gathering.
Through routine operations, timely repairs, and ongoing maintenance, the District is committed to preserving the appearance, functionality, and safety of these public spaces for everyone to enjoy.
Curb Painting
As part of the District’s commitment to beautification, our curb painting program plays a crucial role in maintaining the polished look of esplanades and medians. The freshly painted, brightly colored curbs not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of our roadways but also contribute to public safety by improving visibility for drivers and pedestrians. These seemingly small improvements have a significant impact over time, helping to create a safer, more attractive environment for everyone in the North Houston District.
In 2025, more than 24,000 linear feet of curb was refreshed. Each year, the District invests in new roads.
Street Sweeping
In our ongoing efforts to keep the North Houston District clean and inviting, we maintain a rigorous street sweeping program that covers 13 miles of roadways each month. This regular street sweeping ensures that debris, litter, and dirt are promptly removed from our streets, contributing to a tidier, more welcoming environment. Beyond just enhancing the visual appeal of our corridors, this routine maintenance also helps protect our local waterways by preventing pollutants from entering the storm drains. It’s another example of how our attention to detail makes a lasting difference in the overall quality of life in our community.
Branded Street Sign Maintenance
Every street sign within the District’s City of Houston boundaries has been upgraded with a branded North Houston District street sign, creating a consistent identity throughout the community. Today, the District’s Field Services Department maintains 196 overhead signs and 303 corner signs, replacing damaged or missing signs as needed to ensure they remain safe, functional, and visually appealing. These distinctive signs enhance wayfinding, reinforce the District’s identity, and contribute to a polished appearance at every intersection.
