Planning today helps shape the North Houston District of tomorrow. Through planning, projects, and collaborative partnerships, the District delivers improvements that strengthen community assets, enhance public spaces, and support long-term growth and investment.

From park enhancements and trail connections to intersection improvements and other capital projects, each initiative is thoughtfully planned to meet the community’s evolving needs. By working closely with local, regional, and state partners, the District continues to create places that encourage investment, improve the visitor experience, and benefit businesses, residents, and visitors alike.

Wussow Park Renovation

The North Houston District has completed a $1 million renovation of Thomas R. Wussow Park, reopening the 22-year-old neighborhood park with expanded amenities and modern upgrades. Funded jointly with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, the project adds two youth soccer fields, new playground and adult fitness areas, upgraded lighting, and environmental enhancements. Seventeen new solar lights and LED field lighting improve safety and extend evening use. New monument signage aligns with the District’s gateways, while native landscaping and a pollinator garden promote sustainability. Named for District founder Thomas R. Wussow, the revitalized park reflects community feedback from the 2023 Parks Master Plan and reaffirms the District’s commitment to accessible, well-maintained public spaces.

Greens Bayou Trail Connector

The North Houston District is advancing the Trail Connector Project to improve access between existing trail systems and create a safer, more connected network for pedestrians and cyclists. The project will construct a new trail beneath the Interstate 45 bridge at Greens Bayou, linking trails on the east and west sides of the corridor. Once complete, the connection will improve accessibility, expand recreational opportunities, and provide a more continuous trail experience throughout the District. The project reflects the District’s ongoing commitment to enhancing connectivity and investing in public spaces that serve residents, businesses, and visitors.
